"We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord."
Many modern Christians lack a genuine longing for heaven due to historical philosophical influences that led to a metaphorical, rather than literal, interpretation of biblical descriptions of the afterlife.
The Bible describes heaven as a tangible "new heaven and a new earth," not merely a spiritual or ethereal realm, and will be a physical reality.
In heaven, believers will receive new, resurrected bodies free from all suffering and limitations. Activities like eating and creating will exist, but without the negative aspects of sin and destruction.
Heaven will be characterized by God's complete presence, righteousness, and justice, where death, pain, suffering, and all forms of evil will be permanently eradicated.
The inherent human longing for peace, fulfillment, and joy is God-given, signifying that we are created for an eternal home that can only be fully realized in His presence.
Jesus Christ's sacrifice on the cross offers forgiveness for sin, allowing believers to be reconciled with God and secure a place in this perfect eternal home.
God, in His love, provides the option of eternal life through Christ but respects human free will; choosing not to accept this offer leads to eternal separation (hell).
